Cursor
Also known as: Cursor AI, Cursor editor
Cursor is a code editor built around AI assistance, developed by Anysphere. It is based on the Visual Studio Code codebase and adds inline completion, chat about your repository and an agent mode that can plan and apply multi-file changes. Developers and technical marketers use it to read, write and refactor code with a model that has context on the whole project.
What it is
Cursor looks and behaves like a familiar editor but indexes your codebase so the model can answer questions and make edits with project context. Features include predictive multi-line completion, a chat panel that can reference specific files, and an agent that carries out a requested change across several files while you review the diff. Project rules files let teams set conventions the assistant should follow.
Why it matters
A lot of technical SEO and analytics work is code work: templates, structured data, redirects, feed transforms and tracking. Cursor lowers the barrier for marketers who can read code but do not write it fluently, and speeds up delivery for developers handling search and measurement tickets. It also makes it easier to audit an unfamiliar repository before proposing changes.
How it works
Practitioners open the repository, ask questions in chat to locate the templates that render titles, canonicals or schema, then use the agent to draft the change and inspect the diff before committing. Rules files and clear prompts keep output consistent with house conventions, and changes still go through normal review, testing and deployment. Sensitive repositories need a check on the privacy and indexing settings before use.
When it applies
It applies when search, content or analytics changes require editing code, and when a team wants faster exploration of a codebase it does not own or know well.
Examples
- A technical SEO uses chat to find every template that outputs a canonical tag before filing a fix.
- A marketer asks the agent to add Product structured data to a listing template, then hands the diff to a developer for review.
- An analytics lead refactors a tag helper so consent state is checked before events fire.
How it is measured
- Cycle time from technical SEO ticket to deployed change
- Share of search fixes shipped without waiting on a development sprint
- Proportion of AI-assisted changes accepted at code review
- Defect or rollback rate on AI-assisted commits

- AI content detectionAI content detection is the use of software to estimate whether a piece of text, image, audio or video was generated by an AI model. Detectors return a probability or classification rather than proof, and accuracy varies with length, language, editing and model used. Because of that uncertainty, results are treated as a signal for review, not a verdict.
- AI watermarkingAI watermarking is the practice of embedding a signal into AI generated text, images, audio or video so the output can later be identified as machine produced. The signal is usually designed to be imperceptible to people but detectable by software that holds the matching key or detector. It is one of several provenance approaches used alongside metadata standards and content credentials.
- Bot detectionBot detection is the practice of identifying automated traffic to a website or API and separating it from human visitors. It distinguishes wanted automation, such as search engine and AI crawlers, from unwanted activity like scraping, credential stuffing and click fraud. Detection results feed decisions about what to allow, challenge, rate limit or block.
- Brave BrowserBrave is a Chromium based web browser from Brave Software that blocks third party trackers and most ads by default. It bundles privacy controls, Brave Search as the default engine, and an AI assistant called Leo. Because it strips tracking scripts, visits from Brave users are often harder to attribute in analytics.
- Brave SearchBrave Search is a search engine from Brave Software that serves results from its own web index rather than reselling another engine's results. It is the default engine in the Brave browser, offers AI generated answer summaries, and is sold to developers as the Brave Search API.
