The X Subscription Bundles Grok, Cursor and X From $8

xAI launched The X Subscription on 12 October 2026, a single plan that bundles Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium. Paid tiers run from $8 to $200 a month and share one pool of Grok model usage across the products. The $30 Premium tier covers what xAI says previously cost $90 a month as three separate plans.

The X Subscription is an AI subscription that combines xAI's Grok assistant, the Grok Bot AI teammates, the Cursor coding agents and X Premium social features into one plan with one usage allowance. xAI says it is available to new customers from launch day and will reach everyone globally "over the next few days".

What xAI announced on 12 October 2026

The official xAI announcement of The X Subscription sets out five tiers. Each paid tier includes a pool of Grok model usage that works in the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X, and in Cursor.

PlanPriceIncluded usageWhat it covers
Free$0LimitedDaily Grok access, a starter allowance for Cursor coding agents, standard X
Plus$8/monthBaseMore Grok and Cursor usage, checkmark, creator tools, fewer ads
Premium$30/month4x PlusSuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ benefits, previously $90/month combined
Super$100/month15x PlusAll of the above features
Ultra$200/month50x PlusAll of the above features

xAI states that "each comparable new tier provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces". It also says every X Subscription plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with xAI models as the comparable Cursor plan.

Why the $90 to $30 repricing matters

A two thirds price drop on the same stack is the headline, and it is a distribution move rather than a discount. xAI is buying consolidation. If your team already pays for a coding assistant, an AI chat tool and a social subscription, one bill at $30 a seat is hard to argue against on cost alone.

This fits a wider pattern in AI pricing. Capability is holding while the cost of access falls, as Anthropic's Haiku 5.5 price cut showed. My read is that AI tooling budgets set in 2025 are now materially overstated, and most growth teams have not rebuilt their forecasts to reflect it.

How the shared usage pool changes budgeting

The shared pool is the structural change, not the price. One allowance covers Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice and Grok Bot, plus the Cursor coding agents.

  • One pool, any product: xAI says you can spend your entire usage pool on a single product, and whatever you do not use in Grok is available in Cursor.
  • Weekly refresh: allowances reset weekly, so, in xAI's words, "one heavy day never wipes out your whole month". Remaining usage is visible in settings.
  • Top-offs when you run out: you can keep going with top-offs or wait for the refresh.
  • Third-party models cost extra: third-party models remain available in Cursor on Premium and above, billed separately at API list prices through top-ups, with spending caps available.

For finance, this replaces per-tool forecasting with a single consumption line. That is simpler, but it also means one team's heavy week can eat another team's allowance if you pool seats carelessly.

What teams and enterprise buyers get

Team plans cost the same per seat as individual plans: $30, $100 or $200, with the same included usage per seat. xAI says this is lower per seat than older Cursor Teams plans while including three times more coding usage.

Team and enterprise plans add SSO, role-based access, admin controls, consolidated billing, usage analytics and SOC 2 compliance. Enterprise customers can manage Grok and Cursor from one dashboard with a single usage pool across both. xAI directs enterprise buyers to its sales team.

The risks worth pricing in

Model lock-in: the economics reward using xAI models. Third-party models in Cursor move to metered API list pricing, so a mixed-model workflow gets more expensive by design.

Consumption uncertainty: xAI says "usage costs vary by product" without publishing unit costs in the announcement. You cannot model spend precisely until you have run real workloads.

The quiet migration: existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans continue unchanged, but are closed to new sign-ups. xAI says it will eventually move remaining customers to the new plans, with no timeline and advance notice promised.

What to do about The X Subscription this week

  1. Pull your current spend on SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium per seat and compare it against the $30 Premium tier on the xAI pricing page.
  2. Check billing settings for the switch option. Switching ends current plans with a prorated refund and starts the new one immediately, with limited-time upgrade offers.
  3. Audit how much of your Cursor use relies on third-party models, since that usage moves to separate API billing.
  4. If you are on an annual plan, note that your term runs to its end date and any change takes effect at renewal.
  5. Link accounts before you switch using xAI's combine accounts tool.

The X Subscription confirms that bundling is now the main competitive weapon in AI tooling, alongside assistants embedding into the tools people already use. Expect rivals to answer on price within weeks.
