Google Workspace
Also known as: Workspace, G Suite, Google Apps
Google Workspace is Google's cloud suite of productivity and collaboration tools, including Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Meet and Forms. It was previously sold as G Suite and, before that, Google Apps. Marketing teams use it as the shared layer where briefs, data, reporting and approvals live.
What it is
Google Workspace bundles email, file storage, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, calendars, video meetings and forms under a single business account and domain. Admins manage users, groups, sharing rules and security from a central console. Apps Script sits underneath the suite and lets teams automate tasks or connect to external APIs.
Why it matters
Discovery work depends on repeatable processes, and most of those processes run through shared documents, spreadsheets and reporting files. A common workspace keeps content briefs, keyword research, site change logs and performance data in one place, which shortens handovers between SEO, content and development. It also gives you a lightweight automation layer without buying extra software.
How it works
Teams set up shared drives by function or client, standardise templates for briefs and audits, and control access through groups rather than individual sharing. Apps Script is used to pull data from sources such as Search Console or analytics into Sheets on a schedule, send alerts, or push content from Docs into a CMS. Version history and comments carry the review trail, so edits and approvals are traceable.
When it applies
It applies whenever a team needs shared documentation, collaborative reporting or lightweight automation across marketing, content and development.
Examples
- An agency keeps every client's content brief template, audit checklist and monthly report in a shared drive, with access granted by group rather than per file.
- An in-house SEO uses Apps Script in Workspace to email the content team whenever a tracked page drops out of the top ten in a rank tracking sheet.
- A business owner collects website enquiries through Google Forms, which writes each submission to a Sheet used for lead follow-up.
How it is measured
- Licence adoption and active users against seats paid for
- Share of recurring reports that are produced from templates rather than built by hand
- Number of Apps Script automations running and their failure rate
- Average turnaround time from content brief creation to approved draft

- AI content detectionAI content detection is the use of software to estimate whether a piece of text, image, audio or video was generated by an AI model. Detectors return a probability or classification rather than proof, and accuracy varies with length, language, editing and model used. Because of that uncertainty, results are treated as a signal for review, not a verdict.
- AI watermarkingAI watermarking is the practice of embedding a signal into AI generated text, images, audio or video so the output can later be identified as machine produced. The signal is usually designed to be imperceptible to people but detectable by software that holds the matching key or detector. It is one of several provenance approaches used alongside metadata standards and content credentials.
- Bot detectionBot detection is the practice of identifying automated traffic to a website or API and separating it from human visitors. It distinguishes wanted automation, such as search engine and AI crawlers, from unwanted activity like scraping, credential stuffing and click fraud. Detection results feed decisions about what to allow, challenge, rate limit or block.
- Brave BrowserBrave is a Chromium based web browser from Brave Software that blocks third party trackers and most ads by default. It bundles privacy controls, Brave Search as the default engine, and an AI assistant called Leo. - Brave SearchBrave Search is a search engine from Brave Software that serves results from its own web index rather than reselling another engine's results. It is the default engine in the Brave browser, offers AI generated answer summaries, and is sold to developers as the Brave Search API.
